AUGMENTED SCULPTURE

James Winnett

James Winnett is a stone carver interested in the crossovers between sculpture, archaeology, folklore, place, and memory.

We are working with James to explore how augmented tech can enhance his work by adding a layer of digital storytelling to his carvings.

Stories in Stone

Using a 3D photogrammetry scan of the carved stone, this web-app prototype allows the user to virtually explore and investigate the carving while learning about historic references, floklore and stories related to the work.

Prototype V1

Photogrammetry

We optimised the 3D scans to render quickly in the browser while retaining the rich texture and detail of the original carvings.

UI Design

The UI design allows the carvings to take centre stage. The interface rotates and zooms to the relevant section of each stone as the user explores the stories that inspired the carvings.
